A Friendly Reminder......

.....To ALWAYS check your receipts!

Since I try (take note of the word try) to be cautious as to where my money goes, I usually give a little skim over my receipts to make sure I got the sale price and my coupon went through.

So yesterday we were down to our last few drops of milk and needed to venture into town to get some groceries. Me and the 3 amigos didn't even venture out of the house until 4 in the afternoon, so needless to say the kiddos were a bit restless on this trip. But, we finally wound our way through the aisles and I had worn out my voice with about a million repeats of "no, we can't buy that today." I was ready to be done and lock the kids in their car seats.

The girls were "helpers" to get all the groceries out of the cart and onto the conveyer belt. Ty was a "helper" to try and pull out everything within reach. So I handed over my coupons and the nice lady at the checkout totaled everything up and said, "Okay that will be $103 and something something cents." Youch. In my mind I was thinking that was WAY over what I was planning, but at this point all 4 of us have reached our limit I needed to get OUT of the store.

We make it out to the car, everyone gets strapped in, and I sit down to review my receipt. I get mostly through my receipt and all looks legit until I get to the price for the donuts.

{insert- Yes, fine, judge if you will. I bought donuts. Do you remember it was about 5 o'clock? Just admit, you would have caved too.}

So, I bought 5 random assorted donuts at 59 cents a piece. Total of $2.95. You can imagine my eyes popping out of my head as I read the receipt showing I paid $29.95 for the donuts. TWENTY NINE NINETY FIVE. I don't care what time of day it is, I am not paying 30 smackers for donuts!

Two thoughts here:
1: The delectably unhealthy fried chunks of bread were smothered in sugared gold flecks.
-or-
2: There was a serious error on my receipt.

Needless to say, we all unloaded out of the car. Again. Strapped Ty in a cart. Again. Herded the ladies into the store. Again. I will never pay 30 bucks for donuts. Again.

Thanks to the nice cashier at the customer service desk, my debit card is a bit happier with the refund.

Moral of the story? Always check your receipts.

The end.

Maybe, Just Maybe....

....I am doing something right.

Heaven knows we mothers can be a wee bit critical of ourselves at times. But the other day I had a brief moment to let me know that maybe, just maybe, I am doing something right. My little ladies donned their aprons and decided to work together (nicely!) to load the dishwasher for mom. I admit I had a small moment to remind myself to look beyond the water being spilled and the random placement of the dishes. But it was small. So I stood there smiling at my sweet girls who were so willing to help out. I love to see their coy little smiles as I pull them in and give them a big love to tell them how grateful I am. The icing on the cake is when they get another big smile on their face and let me know that they are feeling the Holy Ghost. For 10 minutes in time all was well in my world.

Then of course within 10 more minutes they were back in their bedroom arguing. Sigh. Line upon line, I suppose.

What's that, you say? Is Allie wearing glasses? You betcha she sure is. I finally took her into the eye doc and sure enough, as the doc says, "she is just as far-sighted as her sister." Another one bites the dust. Looks like when Kenna has her next check-up in March we'll get Ty checked out too. Our track record isn't too hot. Never did two sisters look so darn cute in glasses, I must say! Okay, I'm their mom. I admit there may be a bit of a bias.
